Woven into Our Fibers showcases the artwork of 10 innovative regional artists: Alexandria P. Clay (Durham, NC) Barbara Campbell Thomas (Climax, NC) Cassandra Liuzzo (Greensboro, NC) Gordon Holliday (Charlotte, NC) Jennifer Reis (Martinsville, VA) Julio Gonzalez (Charlotte, NC) Noelani Jones (Thurmont, MD) Sharron Parker (Durham, NC) Taari Coleman (Durham, NC) When preparing for this exhibition, the CVA sought out artists who are working with the materials and ideas of fiber in new and thoughtful ways, while at the same time honoring the long and rich history of the fiber arts. These artists each have their own unique approach to working with fibers – some literally work with textile fibers, while others explore metaphorical fibers and/or use unexpected materials as the fiber they create with. Their work is as diverse as they are, delving into themes of sustainability and re-use; color and form; nature and the land; storytelling of our past, present, and future; family histories; and the traditions of fibers and textiles. In spite of their variety, the works in this exhibition weave together an interesting visual conversation about who we are, our interconnection, and what makes us. |

| EVERY MONDAY Exhibiting Artist, Taari Felice invites the public to come into the gallery on Monday evenings to create in community and contribute to a slow growing forest. Taari's vision for their work in the exhibition is to slowly build a forest in the gallery, mostly using fibers/textiles. As you visit, and return, you will see this work change and grow. Masks will be required the entire time you are in the CVA for this event to protect our communities. We do have masks available by the door should you forget yours.

| As we confront the extractive global economy that drives climate change, we must address how the textiles we use in every facet of our lives are interwoven with a legacy of genocide, enslavement and displacement. Due to tense, exploitative, oppressive history, as well as generational trauma, working fibers like cotton and hemp has been a difficult process for folks in the US. Join us for an evening with two prominent leaders in regenerative agriculture, Anna Jeffries and Sky, who will share their expertise on cotton and hemp. | The fashion industry has long had a tendency to be inaccessible in a multitude of ways from denying access to disabled folks to a history of exclusion of trans, black, and brown bodies. Added to that is the rise of fast fashion, a relatively new form of creation that results in damage to and disregard of the planet, workers, and animals. Join us for the closing event of the Woven into Our Fibers Exhibition, A Fashion Slow, an event focused on prioritizing accessibility, disability justice, and climate justice by centering disabled, queer, and BIPOC designers who create sustainably—in a way that does not continue an extractive nature and environmental negligence.
